Chrysostomos Stylios

Professor Chrysostomos Stylios is the new Director of the Industrial Systems Institute (ISI), of the Research and Innovation Center in Information, Communication and Knowledge Technologies "ATHENA", after evaluation and election by a committee of internationally renowned researchers and scientists.

Mr. Stylios, Electrical and Computer Engineer is a professor at the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications of the University of Ioannina based in Arta, while his professional / research collaborations with Patras begin in 2000 as a postdoctoral researcher of the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Technology of the University of Patras. From 2006-2011 he has been a Research and Development Consultant at the Science Park of Patras, where the first contact with ISI, its activities and its researchers takes place. From 2012 to 2021 he is a collaborating faculty member at the Computer Technology Institute and Press "Diophantus". For the last fifteen (15) years he has been the Scientific Officer in research and development projects, with a total budget of almost € 6M. In addition, among others, he has served as a Dean of the School of Informatics & Telecommunications, Member of the Senate of the University of Ioannina, a Member of the Special Seven-Member Body of the Research and Management Committee of the Special Account for Research Grants as well as in many other administrative positions in the academic environment. He is a member of the Sectoral Scientific Council "Data Policy and Artificial Intelligence”, of the National Council for Research and Innovation. Finally, he is the Founder & Director of the Laboratory of Knowledge & Intelligent Computing of the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications of the University of Ioannina.

In his own words, from this position he will seek to attract new research and development collaborations, while in cooperation with the research staff of ISI, he will implement the principles and practices of Open Innovation that will enhance Production & Transfer Knowledge. Particular emphasis will be put on utilizing research results produced by the Institute's researchers through the support of spin-off and spin-out companies. His aim is to strengthen research and excellence, the creation of a friendly research environment and further interconnection of the Institute with local bodies, the creation of long-term strategic collaborations with universities, research centers and companies, with the ultimate goal of making ISI a reference point in digital transformation of businesses & industries nationally and internationally.

His extensive research background, the many years of experience in administrative positions, his collaboration with research institutes & universities in Greece and abroad as well as the vision of Mr. Stylios for the strengthening of the existing research areas of ISI and also the introduction of new research directions, will be a springboard for a four-year term with new challenges, new collaborations and achievements in the field of Industrial Systems, Artificial Intelligence and the 4th Industrial Revolution.
