Short Description:

AURORA MINDS implements a multi-layered security framework that integrates Identity Management (IdM) and Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs) to ensure rigorous protection of sensitive data. This framework goes beyond basic security, embedding privacy Attribute-based Credentials (p-ABCs) that enable selective disclosure, ensuring full compliance with GDPR and other privacy regulations. Moreover, the project implements a decentralized identity provider, built on blockchain, enhancing privacy by preventing tracking across service providers, and eliminating the single point of failure in traditional identity management systems. Central to its data protection approach is the use of Federated Learning, where sensitive data remains local to user devices, and Local Differential Privacy, which adds noise to data during analysis to further safeguard privacy. This means that no raw personal data is ever centralized, drastically reducing the risk of breaches or misuse.

Short Description:

The “Scaling up the Commercialization of R&D” project aims to develop an international curriculum on commercializing research results and convert it into an e-learning course available in four European languages (English, Polish, Romanian, Greek). The course will cater to students, researchers, innovators, innovation team members, and entrepreneurs.

The project will involve creating the course methodology and curriculum, establishing an e-learning platform, and conducting pilot courses for all target groups to evaluate the course’s effectiveness and appeal. By offering the course on an e-learning platform, we aim to widely disseminate knowledge and skills related to implementing innovative solutions into practical applications. This will meet the needs of students, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs for a comprehensive, accessible curriculum directly linked to university activities, aiding in better preparation for research work implementation and collaboration with incubators and technology transfer centers.

We plan to pilot train 180 students, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs (60 in each country), along with training 18 “train-the-trainer” individuals in the pilot program. The project’s outcomes will be shared with all interested partners and organizations. All digital training and teaching materials will be freely available to the public.

Project Output: The SUCReD e-Learning Course

As part of our mission to enhance R&D commercialization in Central and Southeastern Europe, the SUCReD partnership has developed a standardized, multilingual e-learning curriculum. The course offers a mastery-oriented learning experience, guiding participants through the entire innovation lifecycle from initial discovery to successful market application.

Course Curriculum

The curriculum systematically addresses critical knowledge gaps through five carefully sequenced chapters:

• Chapter I: Intellectual Property – Master the definitions, protection mechanisms (patents, trademarks, etc.), and strategic management of IP within a university environment.
• Chapter II: Market Potential Assessment – Learn to conduct competition analysis, identify target segments, and evaluate market restrictions to validate your innovation’s demand.
• Chapter III: Commercialization Strategies – Explore various pathways, including licensing contracts, spin-offs, and the direct sale of rights to your research results.
• Chapter IV: Science-to-Business Partnerships – Develop practical skills in IP valuation, constructing technological offers, and leading formal industry negotiations.

• Chapter V: Research and Implementation Project Management – Utilize the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) framework, manage R&D risks, and calculate technical costs of production.

Short Description:

YIELD aims to empower young innovators across the EUROMED region by supporting the development of new entrepreneurial initiatives in the Blue, Green and Circular Economy (BGCE) deep-tech sectors. Through a structured methodology that includes regional analyses, training, mentoring, business development services, and envoy missions, the project aims to reduce the barriers faced by aspiring entrepreneurs and create an enabling environment for innovation-driven growth.

Project Summary:

The CRADLES project (Creating Resilient Areas to Develop Lifecycles and Ecosystem Services) is an EU-funded initiative under the IPA ADRION Programme. Its goal is to restore and conserve critical nursery areas in the Adriatic-Ionian region. These areas are essential for the survival of many aquatic species, both vertebrates and invertebrates and for maintaining the health of the entire ecosystem. However, they are under serious threat from pollution, habitat degradation, and climate change, which are challenges shared by all countries in the region.

To tackle these threats, CRADLES adopts a holistic, transnational approach. It brings together partners from seven countries to collaboratively address the degradation of nursery areas. By pooling resources, expertise, and best practices, the project aims to restore these habitats and ensure their long-term sustainability.

Key Goals and Objectives

The primary objective of CRADLES is to improve the conservation of biodiversity and nursery areas in the coastal and freshwater wetlands of the Adriatic-Ionian region. This will be achieved through science-based restoration efforts, combined with traditional management practices that have supported these ecosystems for centuries. The project seeks to enhance ecological processes, benefiting both the species that rely on these habitats and the human communities that depend on the ecosystem services they provide.

An added benefit of restoring nursery areas is their potential to improve carbon sequestration, contributing to climate change mitigation.

Output

CRADLES will produce several key outputs, including:

• A comprehensive restoration and conservation strategy for nursery areas.
• Pilot studies to test the effectiveness of proposed restoration actions.
• Capacity building and knowledge-sharing initiatives, helping local communities and stakeholders gain the skills and understanding needed to sustain these efforts.

The challenges facing nursery areas do not stop at national borders. Pollution, habitat loss, and climate change affect the entire Adriatic-Ionian region. By working together, countries can develop more effective, coordinated strategies to address these shared problems. Additionally, the project covers a wide range of habitats—from freshwater to transitional and marine environments—ensuring a comprehensive approach to restoration.

CRADLES stands out for its innovative, region-wide approach. Unlike previous efforts, which were often fragmented or limited in scope, this project unites seven countries to create a coordinated strategy. It also uses advanced tools and methods to study the impacts of human activities on nursery areas and predict their long-term effects.
Beyond protecting specific species or habitats, CRADLES aims to preserve the ecosystem functions that sustain biodiversity and provide essential services to society—such as clean water, carbon storage, and economic benefits tied to fishing and tourism.
By taking a holistic and collaborative approach, CRADLES aims to set a new standard for restoring and conserving nursery areas. The project not only addresses immediate environmental challenges but also creates lasting benefits for both nature and the people of the Adriatic-Ionian region.

Brief Description of the project:

The project aims at developing an interactive visualisation system based on Augmented Reality (AR) technologies and their integration with the other information systems of a hotel. Augmented Reality on mobile devices sensitizes participants and integrates them into a new perceptual reality of interactive and enriched views and aesthetics of the objects/parts of the space.

In particular, the following tasks will be implemented:

• Development of a model platform, database and recommendation system,
• Development of autonomous navigation and augmented reality (AR) models,
• Application of 360⁰ perimeter projection,
• Development and implementation of applications on smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and web browsers,
• Production of a targeted plan to showcase and highlight the results of the investment.

Brief Description of the project:

iCREW is an integrated small boat simulator that aims to train future or current skippers in a variety of conditions that they will encounter more or less infrequently during their voyages around the globe. It aims to reduce the number of maritime accidents involving small vessels, which constitute the absolute majority of such incidents and are mainly caused by inadequate training according to all international statistics. The training conditions are completely safe but at the same time of maximum immersion: visualisation of the environment with photorealistic graphics in real time, full multi-channel audio coverage, a real open or closed cabin with all the controls and instruments found on a fully functional vessel, and three-axis motion that is fully responsive to the turbulence and waves of the natural environment. The system is aimed at the entire maritime world, with amateur skipper training schools and professional skippers academies as potential users.

Brief Description of the project:

Tourism in Greece is a key element of the country’s economic activity and one of its most important sectors. However, over time, the need to promote digital applications in tourism has been recognized by all competent bodies, as the systematic exploitation and enhancement of technological innovation in ICT is a strategic choice and a bet for increasing competitiveness and enhancing the quality of Greek tourism services. The era of the ‘digital’ traveller has already begun. In this environment, hoteliers are called upon to respond to new digital needs, often even to anticipate them.

Sustainable development in tourism requires the integration of all the possibilities offered by technology, such as artificial intelligence, digital platforms, big data and virtual reality. There are now several successful examples of hotels differentiating themselves by implementing massive personalisation to surprise and delight their guests. It is important to give the customer the opportunity to experience unique experiences. It is now imperative that hotels and hoteliers think like technology companies and necessarily work with specialist technology partners. In the new era, the hospitality entrepreneur cannot just be a hotelier, but at the same time must be a story teller. Moreover, the use of technological applications is sought to manage and measure the sustainable development of tourist destinations in order to improve productivity and quality of tourism services.

For this reason, various Recommendation Systems (RS) have been proposed as a practical means to overcome the problem of information overload. Recommendation systems are information systems that use techniques for analysing user preferences – ratings combined with information on products or services, are based on algorithms-models for generating recommendations, calculate recommendations in real time and present personalised recommendations to each client user. In addition, delightful experience design systems using virtual reality (VR) in tourism have also emerged that change the way people perceive the digital world, enabling hotels to transform the way they host, for example by showing people a place before they visit it, so they know what to expect. In augmented reality, images generated by a computer are projected onto images of the real world. As Virtual Reality (VR) technologies evolve, they offer more potential applications in the tourism industry.

The aim of the project is the creation of recommendation systems – virtually imprinted – by the hotels that will enable their users – customers to choose between the proposed tourism products/services having full knowledge of their characteristics, as manifested in conditions that simulate the physical reality. The aim is also to create an integrated digital ecosystem for the promotion and promotion of the hotel product in which all the information that the visitor is looking for about the hotel destination will be concentrated in a single point and enriched with new virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) and video projection technologies. The final objective of the project is to create an innovative recommendation system tailored to the needs of the hotel’s prospective customers with some Augmented Reality (AR) applications that constitute an innovation in tourism.

Brief Description of the project:

The project’s aim is twofold: a) to conduct research and develop advanced machine vision algorithms for remote monitoring of avifauna using thermal cameras and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and b) to design and develop an innovative system for the remote diagnosis of avian health and the timely warning of diseases occurrence. The Amvrakikos and Kerkini wetlands (wetlands under the Ramsar Convention), which are internationally recognised as biodiversity hotspots for their importance and their role in the conservation of endangered and protected bird species, are the target sites for the system development and evaluation.

In particular, the designed and developed machine vision algorithms will ensure precise remote observation without disturbing the bird colonies and will accurately identify the different species and habitats, which will be visualised in a geographic information system.

The research conclusions may be leveraged for the modernisation and improvement of the “Biosecurity Measures for Avian Influenza” of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food since, with the project implementation, the veterinary authorities will have the ability to be immediately informed about the occurrence of any suspected case. Therefore, they will have at their disposal a valuable tool to assess the risk and, in turn, inform those concerned of a potential disease outbreak in the area in time. The first crucial step in a comprehensive approach to managing and ensuring biosecurity involves the utilisation of modern equipment. This will enable early detection of bird diseases, allowing for timely implementation of containment measures to minimise the risk of introducing and spreading pathogens originating from wild birds to healthy populations.

The specific project will improve the process of disease detection before any mass mortality events occur, while immediate action can be taken to remove any dead birds to prevent spread. In addition, highly contagious bird diseases, which are characterised by a high mortality rate, can be detected in time.
