Short Description:

AURORA MINDS implements a multi-layered security framework that integrates Identity Management (IdM) and Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs) to ensure rigorous protection of sensitive data. This framework goes beyond basic security, embedding privacy Attribute-based Credentials (p-ABCs) that enable selective disclosure, ensuring full compliance with GDPR and other privacy regulations. Moreover, the project implements a decentralized identity provider, built on blockchain, enhancing privacy by preventing tracking across service providers, and eliminating the single point of failure in traditional identity management systems. Central to its data protection approach is the use of Federated Learning, where sensitive data remains local to user devices, and Local Differential Privacy, which adds noise to data during analysis to further safeguard privacy. This means that no raw personal data is ever centralized, drastically reducing the risk of breaches or misuse.

Project Objective

The +nomos project aims to develop an integrated digital platform that simplifies the management, analysis, dissemination, and accessibility of legal documents. Utilizing advanced Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, the project focuses on:

• Automation & Enrichment: Automating metadata extraction and continuously expanding the legal document database.
• Innovation: Researching cutting-edge technologies tailored specifically to the unique requirements of Greek legislation.
• Structured Access: Enhancing user access to structured information for more targeted and meaningful legal research.

Short Description:

YIELD aims to empower young innovators across the EUROMED region by supporting the development of new entrepreneurial initiatives in the Blue, Green and Circular Economy (BGCE) deep-tech sectors. Through a structured methodology that includes regional analyses, training, mentoring, business development services, and envoy missions, the project aims to reduce the barriers faced by aspiring entrepreneurs and create an enabling environment for innovation-driven growth.

Short Description:

The “Scaling up the Commercialization of R&D” project aims to develop an international curriculum on commercializing research results and convert it into an e-learning course available in four European languages (English, Polish, Romanian, Greek). The course will cater to students, researchers, innovators, innovation team members, and entrepreneurs.

The project will involve creating the course methodology and curriculum, establishing an e-learning platform, and conducting pilot courses for all target groups to evaluate the course’s effectiveness and appeal. By offering the course on an e-learning platform, we aim to widely disseminate knowledge and skills related to implementing innovative solutions into practical applications. This will meet the needs of students, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs for a comprehensive, accessible curriculum directly linked to university activities, aiding in better preparation for research work implementation and collaboration with incubators and technology transfer centers.

We plan to pilot train 180 students, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs (60 in each country), along with training 18 “train-the-trainer” individuals in the pilot program. The project’s outcomes will be shared with all interested partners and organizations. All digital training and teaching materials will be freely available to the public.

Project Output: The SUCReD e-Learning Course

As part of our mission to enhance R&D commercialization in Central and Southeastern Europe, the SUCReD partnership has developed a standardized, multilingual e-learning curriculum. The course offers a mastery-oriented learning experience, guiding participants through the entire innovation lifecycle from initial discovery to successful market application.

Course Curriculum

The curriculum systematically addresses critical knowledge gaps through five carefully sequenced chapters:

• Chapter I: Intellectual Property – Master the definitions, protection mechanisms (patents, trademarks, etc.), and strategic management of IP within a university environment.
• Chapter II: Market Potential Assessment – Learn to conduct competition analysis, identify target segments, and evaluate market restrictions to validate your innovation’s demand.
• Chapter III: Commercialization Strategies – Explore various pathways, including licensing contracts, spin-offs, and the direct sale of rights to your research results.
• Chapter IV: Science-to-Business Partnerships – Develop practical skills in IP valuation, constructing technological offers, and leading formal industry negotiations.

• Chapter V: Research and Implementation Project Management – Utilize the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) framework, manage R&D risks, and calculate technical costs of production.

Project Summary:

The CRADLES project (Creating Resilient Areas to Develop Lifecycles and Ecosystem Services) is an EU-funded initiative under the IPA ADRION Programme. Its goal is to restore and conserve critical nursery areas in the Adriatic-Ionian region. These areas are essential for the survival of many aquatic species, both vertebrates and invertebrates and for maintaining the health of the entire ecosystem. However, they are under serious threat from pollution, habitat degradation, and climate change, which are challenges shared by all countries in the region.

To tackle these threats, CRADLES adopts a holistic, transnational approach. It brings together partners from seven countries to collaboratively address the degradation of nursery areas. By pooling resources, expertise, and best practices, the project aims to restore these habitats and ensure their long-term sustainability.

Key Goals and Objectives

The primary objective of CRADLES is to improve the conservation of biodiversity and nursery areas in the coastal and freshwater wetlands of the Adriatic-Ionian region. This will be achieved through science-based restoration efforts, combined with traditional management practices that have supported these ecosystems for centuries. The project seeks to enhance ecological processes, benefiting both the species that rely on these habitats and the human communities that depend on the ecosystem services they provide.

An added benefit of restoring nursery areas is their potential to improve carbon sequestration, contributing to climate change mitigation.

Output

CRADLES will produce several key outputs, including:

• A comprehensive restoration and conservation strategy for nursery areas.
• Pilot studies to test the effectiveness of proposed restoration actions.
• Capacity building and knowledge-sharing initiatives, helping local communities and stakeholders gain the skills and understanding needed to sustain these efforts.

Why Transnational Approach Matters

The challenges facing nursery areas do not stop at national borders. Pollution, habitat loss, and climate change affect the entire Adriatic-Ionian region. By working together, countries can develop more effective, coordinated strategies to address these shared problems. Additionally, the project covers a wide range of habitats—from freshwater to transitional and marine environments—ensuring a comprehensive approach to restoration.

What Makes CRADLES Unique

CRADLES stands out for its innovative, region-wide approach. Unlike previous efforts, which were often fragmented or limited in scope, this project unites seven countries to create a coordinated strategy. It also uses advanced tools and methods to study the impacts of human activities on nursery areas and predict their long-term effects.
Beyond protecting specific species or habitats, CRADLES aims to preserve the ecosystem functions that sustain biodiversity and provide essential services to society—such as clean water, carbon storage, and economic benefits tied to fishing and tourism.
By taking a holistic and collaborative approach, CRADLES aims to set a new standard for restoring and conserving nursery areas. The project not only addresses immediate environmental challenges but also creates lasting benefits for both nature and the people of the Adriatic-Ionian region.

Brief Description of the project:

The project aims at developing an interactive visualisation system based on Augmented Reality (AR) technologies and their integration with the other information systems of a hotel. Augmented Reality on mobile devices sensitizes participants and integrates them into a new perceptual reality of interactive and enriched views and aesthetics of the objects/parts of the space.

In particular, the following tasks will be implemented:

• Development of a model platform, database and recommendation system,
• Development of autonomous navigation and augmented reality (AR) models,
• Application of 360⁰ perimeter projection,
• Development and implementation of applications on smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and web browsers,
• Production of a targeted plan to showcase and highlight the results of the investment.

Artificial intelligence is here to help. How to enable AI for Industry 4.0?

For the industry, it is not just another hype. Artificial intelligence (AI) essentially revolutionises and upgrades manufacturing sectors. Manufacturers are curious and experimenting with new technologies, including AI, machine learning, and the Internet of Things by adding them to their production facilities and optimizing production operations. Yet several common challenges and benefits are relevant to those who prepare AI specialists and upgrade their companies’ goals.

What are the latest applications of AI and machine learning as well as industry insights, the international team of educational and entrepreneurial organizations from Lithuania, Italy, Spain and Germany discussed during the webinar “AI: How Can I Help You? Challenges in Adopting AI in Industry 4.0” in late October.

Learning to adapt

Experts agree AI is here to stay. It designs new approaches and ways for companies to fabricate, improve and distribute their products. During the webinar key speakers and guests helped us to answer the question of how to enhance the AI applications by involving business, academia and industry.

“As the international consortium, we presented a book called “Unlocking Industry 4.0: A Cookbook for Tackling Challenges with Strategic Approaches. The Experience of the “Planet 4” Partnership”. It is basically how current education providers could and should adapt towards nowadays needs from business and industry”, said the coordinator of the international “Erasmus +” project “Planet 4”, Daniele Mazzei, Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Pisa in Italy.

Considering risks

Cybersecurity is one of the common issues each company and individual should consider in the context of the AI boom. Risks are quite high and constantly rising, thus experts encourage strengthening security systems. Kazimieras Bagdonas, the Assistant Professor at Kaunas University of Technology, emphasised the most common aspects of what should be taken into consideration.

“First of all, companies should be aware of the protection of Intellectual property rights. For instance, even AI enables attackers to steal IP and R&D faster using social engineering, and voice manipulations. It is advised to not connect as many as possible devices and equipment to the IoT networks. Also, companies use AI as a very useful evolutionary improvement for the manufacturing approaches and optimizations in processes and supply chains”, explains Mr Bagdonas.

Exploring collaboration

Gintaras Vilda, director at Manufacturing Innovation Valley in Lithuania discussed the practical aspects of Research, Development, and Innovation in the manufacturing industry within the context of Industry 4.0. He highlighted the importance of emerging technologies like AI, IoT, and cloud computing in reshaping manufacturing processes.

“EU manufacturers face lots of challenges in their daily operations, including material shortages. AI and digitalization help address these challenges and ensure a stable supply chain in the manufacturing industry. As we find the emerging concept and transfer towards Industry 5.0, this upgrade emphasises human-centricity focus and sustainability, where AI offers its potential to come up with limitless ideas”, explained Mr Vilda.

The collaboration between businesses, educational institutions, research centres and industry leaders is essential for keeping up with the latest sectoral shifts in adapting to these challenges and changes. “Planet 4” unites various organisations to fill the gap between scientific research on AI and Machine Learning and its industrial application as enabling technology for the Industry 4.0 paradigm.
