The ECOPORTIL Project aims to improve the environmental quality of ports and their surrounding coastal environment by supporting their sustainability, through the implementation of modern methodologies and good practices according to EU and national legislation as well as through innovative tools and methods for the training and capacity building of stakeholders in the ports and nearby coastal zones as a prevention measure of pollution and preservation of natural maritime resources.

The ECOPORTIL Project aims to contribute to:

  • A sustainable maritime sector able to balance between the needs of shipping transportation, the commercial port activities and the environmental protection measures and EU/national legislations.
  • The sustainable Blue Growth, the main objective of Europe 2020 strategy. The introduction of the environmental management systems (EMS) in the maritime sector and port related activities with the contribution of ICT tools and integrated training education and lifelong learning methods/ practices for these sectors is considered of great importance towards Blue Growth and the resilience to climate change.           

                    

Goals of the Project:

  • Establishment of networks and working groups on issues related to the design, coordination and operation of integrated environmental-friendly transport and mobility services and multimodality practices in port areas.
  • Development and/or integration of  existing transnational systems, procedures and early warning systems regarding environmental hazards and risk assessment, planning methodologies, management plans, sustainability and adaptation assessments.
  • Design and implementation of Geographical Information System for the optimal visualization of environmental parameters.
  • Special training courses to improve stakeholder knowledge and bridging the information gap for incorporating legislation and adopting good environmental practices.

The Gienahs Project objective is to strengthen the Innovation and collaboration between Universities and SMEs with a view to institutionalizing the Industrial Doctorate at a pan-European level.

Gienahs project aims to improve interaction and cooperation between European Higher Education Institutions and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, which continue to face major challenges in organizing R & D, although they are the main driving force of the European economy.

This interaction will be promoted through a series of actions to be implemented within the project, such as:

  • Exchange of best practices for cooperation between HEIs and SMEs at European
  • Establishment of an EU standard and methodology for optimal collaboration between universities and SMEs targeted on the co-creation of knowledge and innovation
  • Establishment of an innovative methodological approach for the design of industrial doctoral theses, taking into account the specific needs of European SMEs.
  • The test of the new methodology in the design of pilot industrial doctoral theses oriented towards SMEs in the manufacturing sector
  • Harmonization of European doctoral theses related to industry in order to promote the mobility of researchers in enterprises

The objective of the INTER-PASS, Intermodal Passengers Connectivity between Ports and Airports, is to improve the intermodal connections between ports and airports in the Adriatic–Ionian Region in order to enhance the processing of passengers (mainly cruise tourists and travelers reaching tourists destinations) during the peak season.

The project will produce several specific outputs which will concretely contribute to enhance the capacity for integrated transport, mobility services and multimodality in the Adriatic-Ionian Region. Project activities and outputs will contribute to a higher transnational coordination among countries in the development and implementation of integrated passenger transport systems and intermodality, reducing existing disparities and creating the opportunity to implement smart solutions to the identified challenges in the field of tourists’ transport.

It is indeed expected to contribute to the improvement of regional tourists transport system, thus promoting also the overall economic development of the Region and favoring the connections between the involved regions and national/EU networks. By improving connections among ports and airports the project will contribute to the general integration of the Adriatic-Ionian Basin transportation network, so that the travelers may travel with less obstacles and barriers while reaching their destinations. In addition, the efficient connection between ports and airports in the Adriatic-Ionian Region will also produce numerous benefits able to be observed in the near future such as the reduction of travel and waiting times, the reduction of costs, the improved quality of services, the enhanced level of attractiveness, the reduction in energy consumption, pollutant emissions and the congestion level on the roads that connect airports and ports.

The planned measures are aimed at advancing the following objectives:

–         to create a Capitalization Manual collecting all intermodality solutions and analyse the level of their replicability and adaptability in other areas with similar characteristics

–        to Improve regional intermodal transport of tourists guaranteeing less waiting and processing time for cruise/ferry and airplane passengers

–         to develop an Integrated Strategic Plan for better connection port-airport in Adriatic-Ionian region

  • the creation of a model for risk assessment,
  • the obtaining and installation of special equipment,
  • the design and development of a Geographic Information System,
  • the developing of an application to support decision making in case of floods,
  • the designing and implementation of an integrated operating system for monitoring & timely warning in a graphical environment,
  • the actions for a targeted informing of local authorities, bodies and citizens.

In the BalkanMed INNOVA project the effort will be made:

with special orientation to 4 economic areas of great strategic importance for the socio-economic development of the eligible countries, i.e.: Tourism & Cultural Heritage (TCH), Agribusiness (AGRI) which are both identified as the sectors which contribute to the national GDP of the involved in the project countries and/or have a significant growth potential, Information & Communication Technologies for Small-Medium Enterprises (ICT4SMEs) and Energy & Environment (EE), which can be treated both as independent sectors of business activity and as sectors with presence and application to every contemporary business.

The main target groups benefiting from the BalkanMed INNOVA project will be soon-to-be entrepreneurs, would-be-entrepreneurs and SMEs. They will benefit from the training courses, from the tutoring service available for the best business ideas & the business plan competition rewards. Moreover, graduates who want to keep being updated about the state of the art in the field of their studies. In addition, young PhD researchers, PhDs, young academics will majorly benefit from the TRANSNATIONAL TRAINING THE TRAINERS Day(s) which will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2018 and the network of trainers to be established.

The Project RE.CO.RD:

Marine pollution constitutes one of the most important environmental problems in the world closely affiliated with plastic waste. According to the European Commission, 10 million tonnes of waste annually end up in the seas and oceans of the planet, while over 40% of European Union residents live in coastal areas, and their quality of life is highly affected by marine litter. RE.CO.RD project aims to reduce the environmental impacts of the economic activities related to the tourist development of coastal areas and particularly associated with the presence of waste in these areas. The project gives special emphasis on the active participation of the population and on the introduction of new technologies, promoting actions based on innovation and the involvement of the local population in the recycling of plastic materials, such as:

  • Design and realization of 2 experimental rapid prototypes linked to the experience on materials for collection, weighing solid waste and recycling of plastics material
  • Demonstration, on-site actions, for the collection, weighing and recycling of plastic materials, in areas situated close to the beaches and also with the active participation of the local population

The Project aims to:

  • Promote through mild actions, environmentally friendly technologies for the sustainable management of plastic waste
  • Introduce a model for the use of coasts based on sustainability, incorporating common strategies for the establishment of bathing sites in environmental protection areas
  • Reduce the environmental impacts of economic activities derived from the tourism development of coastal areas such as litter and marine pollution
  • Enhance the environmental awareness and active participation of the local population in waste management issues on the coasts

The objectives of the Project are to build an Open Networked Platform for the learning of Industry 4.0 themes dedicated to PhD students. The students will be able to co-create their learning path and the learning contents and dynamic student teams will be created for every specific learning requirement. Teams will be composed by students belonging to all the European countries. Teams will interact using a Social Network application, therefore there will not be necessary the physical presence.

Present Key Action will address these issues by adopting modern learning strategies and by exploiting innovative ICT technologies. The learning strategies are Social Network-Based Education (SNE) and Constructive Alignment.

SNE is focused on teamworking, building of interaction networks among students and teachers of different Universities and Countries. CA gives the necessary common framework for sharing educational objectives among different institutions and different teaching methodologies.

The ICT technologies we exploit are the MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) platforms and the virtual reality. MOOC allow to offer a networked multinational learning content without the need of physical movement of students and teachers among the Universities. Virtual reality is necessary to allow a proper interaction of the students with laboratory activities that are specific of every University. This is particular important as the object of present Key Action is the education in the field of Automation.

Transnational cooperation is mandatory for the success of the project because:

1. Allows to reach the critical mass of students in order to justify the effort in setting up the course

2. Cluster together the knowledge, information and best international practice about Industry 4.0

3. Allows to enhance access to international educational best practices, which can be used and compared, and exchange knowledge

4. Six Countries – six languages – Six Educational systems will allow a richer learning experience

5. Dissemination and implementation of results will benefit from the wide distribution of the partnership

The NEW METRO project is aimed at defining and supporting the development of skilled resources for advanced manufacturing processes as well as the entire Industry 4.0 effort in place across Europe, with a focus on training needs and emerging skills. Based on the project partners’ best practices and analysing additional excellence benchmarks, NEW METRO will support an optimum increase of employability in the sector by:

 

  • overcoming the skill/education mismatch and improving the employability in Mechatronics in the Industry 4.0 scenarios, outlining an innovative competence framework valid at European level. The new training paths will focus on the skills related to Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) and Industry I 4.0 technologies
  • increasing awareness among key stakeholders about the social and organizational changes necessary to cope with new production methods;
  • involving regulatory bodies and stakeholders at regional and European level in developing integrated policies to support the Industry 4.0 initiative;
  • strengthening European young students attitude towards high level VET courses, improving at the same time the online learning offering (VOOC), work-based learning methodologies (WBL) and ensuring a skill qualification system approved at European level.

The project action’s start point is a participatory review and validation of training needs analysis. The second phase leads to the design of a Joint Learning Supply, with the identification of macro area competencies, learning outcomes, and contents. The development of a competencies framework and NEW METRO curriculum in terms of specific learning outcomes and the release of a leaning delivery model are the third and fourth phase’s expected results. The piloting phase will activate 6 pilot sites at a European level, involving collaboration between companies, VET Providers and local public administrations. The validation of NEW METRO curriculum, designed by Vet Provider, companies and public institutions, will be the main project outcome. The action plan is completed by crosscutting activities including PM, QM, valorisation, dissemination and use of the NEW METRO curriculum. All project phases and outputs will be validated by a National and European Stakeholder Community.

The minimum target to be involved will be 120 employees including young people and adults from Mechatronics sector; 12 training departments, VET providers and companies; 70 policy makers and decision makers
